BBC Sport revealed last week that discussions were underway between Palace and the Japanese defender regarding a permanent deal that would bring the international back to the Premier League.
The London club are now advancing with their plans to finalise Tomiyasu’s acquisition ahead of the upcoming campaign.
An outline of contractual terms had already been agreed, with head coach Pierre Sage responsible for determining whether to proceed with the signing of the adaptable 27-year-old defender.
The south London outfit are also considering an approach for March, whose Brighton career concluded at the end of the previous season.
The 32-year-old wideman has been suggested to Palace, with internal conversations at Selhurst Park having addressed the possible transfer.
Sage intends to utilise a three-at-the-back system next term, and sources indicate Tomiyasu is being considered as a contender for the left-sided central defensive role.
The Japanese full-back has suffered persistent knee problems throughout recent seasons, and although Palace are confident in the former Arsenal man’s capabilities, the club is seeking reassurance about his physical condition.
After departing the Gunners by mutual agreement last season, Tomiyasu moved to Ajax, where he featured eight times for the Dutch outfit during the closing stages of the season before representing Japan at the World Cup, making three appearances with two of those from the start.
