The clubs finalised the exchange on Monday, with the two players moving in opposite directions. Everton’s new arrival has committed to a four-year deal while the departing wideman put pen to paper on an extended contract running until the end of the decade.
The 26-year-old almost arrived at the south London outfit back in February, when Palace had agreed terms on a temporary-to-permanent arrangement that would have become a permanent £20m transfer once the current campaign concluded.
Despite the player successfully completing his medical examination, the transaction collapsed because documentation could not be finalised within the required timeframe.
This prompted his partner Megan Sharpley to take to social media, accusing the London club of manipulating his emotional wellbeing.
The Welsh international had arrived at Tottenham from Nottingham Forest during 2023 for a sum exceeding £45m and memorably netted the decisive strike in May’s Europa League showpiece.
The 25-year-old had joined Palace in January for £35m, featuring 26 times across all tournaments during his spell at Selhurst Park but failed to find the net.
He explained to Everton’s broadcast service that he was eager to become involved with the club upon learning of their interest. He mentioned several factors that attracted him, including the managerial situation, the squad quality and the trajectory the team appears to be taking.
He expressed that the club clearly harbours ambitions to progress in the correct direction, and as a player with similar aspirations, the fit feels natural.
The Toffees concluded the previous Premier League season in 13th place following a string of unfavourable outcomes.
However, the former Spurs man is confident the club will pursue European qualification and believes success in cup competitions remains achievable.
The player departing Goodison Park had originally arrived from Burnley during July 2022 for £20m, contributing 15 goals and 19 assists across 128 appearances in all competitions.
The Eagles’ recent triumphs, including the FA Cup, Community Shield and Europa Conference League across the past two campaigns, have generated considerable enthusiasm about his arrival.
He noted the squad’s impressive accomplishments recently and indicated his desire to contribute to such achievements.
Palace’s owner Steve Parish described the acquisition as an experienced Premier League performer.
The two teams are scheduled to meet at Hill Dickinson Stadium on 22 August for the league’s opening round of fixtures.
